
Important information about your rental
On arrival you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of Compass Campers Canada. Here is a summary of the terms and conditions:
Definitions
The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions for Compass Campers Canada
- The Supplier means the operator of Compass Campers Canada
- The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s) the renter, or the customer(s)
Availability
Every effort is made to ensure that the vehicle reserved will be available. However, if due to unavoidable circumstances the reserved vehicle is not available, The supplier reserves the right to substitute that vehicle. Subsequent expenses (additional ferry costs, gasoline, etc.) are the sole responsibility of the renter.
Changes and Cancellation Charges
Cancellation after booking confirmation and up to 49 days prior to departure - a further 10% of rental charges, minimum charge CAD$122,
18 to 48 days prior to departure: 20% of rental charges, minimum charge CAD$500
Less than 18 days prior to departure: 80% of rental charges, minimum charge $1,000
Departure day and no show: 100% of rental charges
One-way rentals: CAD$200 in additional to applicable fee
Note: Cancellation charge not to exceed amount of the rental, any cancellation charges are subject to taxes.
Note: Changes to bookings must be reported to our reservations department prior to departure.
Changes
First change: No charge
Any time after the first: $ 30 each
Please note: these are the fees set out by the supplier in addition to those on the website amendment fees.
All changes and cancellation charges are subject to taxes.
Taxes
All charges are subject to Federal and Provincial taxes. The departure city determines the amount of tax due on one-way rentals. Taxes are subject to change.
At the time of printing, these taxes are as follows:
British Columbia 12% (5% GST + 7% PST)

Yukon 5% GST
Nova Scotia 13% HST (PST & GST combined)
Ontario 13% (5% GST + 8% PST)

Preparation Fee
This mandatory one-time fee is charged per unit/rental and includes the following:

These vehicle and personal kits are available per person/rental and include:

NOTE: No child bike-seats or children bikes available.
Cleaning of Vehicles
All vehicles must be clean inside when returned. This includes kitchen, bathroom and living areas. A charge of $40 per hour for cleaning will be applied for those vehicles returned in an unsatisfactory state. Vehicle holding tanks requiring dumping by staff will result in a $25 service charge. Outside washing is not required (except when returning to the Whitehorse Station, where it is mandatory), unless the check-in procedure cannot be performed due to dirt on the vehicle. We recommend that “Northern Travelers” wash the vehicle prior to returning it to the rental station to avoid potential delays upon check-in.
Currency
All rates and quotes are in Canadian dollars.
Driver’s license requirements
A valid driver’s license from the country of residence is mandatory. Drivers must be 21 years or older, no maximum age limit. An international driver’s license is recommended but is only valid in combination with the national driver’s license.
Pick Up
Vehicles can be collected at our rental stations from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 3pm local time.
Drop off
Monday to Saturday, 9am to 12noon (inspection ready). Sufficient time should be allowed for packing suitcases and cleaning vehicles. There will be a $30.00 charge per hour if the vehicle is overdue without the supplier’s permission. Rental extensions must have prior approval from the supplier.
Early return
The supplier will not pay any refunds for rentals returned prior to the arranged drop off date.
Fuel
The vehicles are provided to the renter with a full tank of gasoline (or diesel) and must be returned with a full tank.
Groups
Reservations for six or more vehicles traveling together are considered a group booking. The supplier encourage groups to travel in Low Season and will provide an attractive quote if at least 2/3 of the time traveled is in Low Season. For groups with more than 20 participants, special coach transfer arrangements may have to be made. Cost for the coach transfer will be at the booking agent’s expense.
Northern Travel
Traveling to the Yukon, NWT, Nunavut or Alaska (U.S.) is permitted when disclosed in advance.
Payments by clients
Visa and Mastercard can be used for your booking deposit payable at booking confirmation.
The remaining balance is payable 20 days prior to rental commencement. This is also taken from your nominated Visa or Mastercard.
Payment for some additional items like physical extras (chairs, camping equipment) or additional insurance covers may be payable on arrival. If so these will be itemised as such.
Refund/Repairs
All replacement parts or repairs in excess of $50.00 require prior authorization from the supplier. Please note that refunds can only be made upon presentation of a proper receipt. Malfunctions of the air-conditioning systems, microwave ovens, radios and cruise controls are not considered breakdowns and no compensation will be given.
Security Deposit
An imprint of a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express) is required while the vehicle is rented. No cash rentals allowed.
In case when the CDR Insurance is not purchased, the supplier reserves the right to block the full amount of the deductible on the customer’s credit card
Insurance
The supplier maintains liability coverage on all its rental vehicles to a maximum of CAD 5,000,000.00 for any bodily injury
and property damage liability claims arising from the operation or use of its rental vehicles, provided all safety instructions as recommended by the supplier have been followed. Premiums for this basic public liability coverage are included in all rental rates, which also include premiums for collision insurance and comprehensive insurance with a deductible of CAD $7,500.00 per occurrence. All coverage and waivers are subject to the express terms of this rental contract and of the applicable motor vehicle insurance contract.
CDR – COLLISION DEDUCTIBLE REDUCER
A collision damage reducer is available for CAD $22.00 per day to a maximum of CAD $660.00 per rental and provides the
following benefits:
- CDR coverage reduces the renter’s responsibility for collision damages from CAD $7,500.00 to CAD $500.00 per
occurrence.
- CDR coverage reduces the renter’s responsibility for comprehensive damage (e.g. windshield, break-in and theft) from CAD $7,500.00 to CAD $500.00 per occurrence.
- Renter please note: A new windshield will cost between CAD $500.00 and CAD $800.00 depending on the type and
model year of the vehicle.
- CDR coverage will guarantee the renter a replacement vehicle when the renter’s vehicle becomes undrivable due to damage, even if the renter is at fault. The replacement vehicle will be delivered to a location agreed upon by the supplier and the renter and will be dispatched within 24 hours from the time the renter notifies the supplier that the renter’s vehicle has become undrivable. Delivery will be limited to a province/state, which borders on the province in which the renter took delivery of the renter’s vehicle. The supplier will not deliver 27’ and 29’ Motorhomes to the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Alaska. Any expenses for accommodation, food etc. are the renter’s responsibility, if damage is the renter’s fault.
- Damages and deductibles are subject to applicable taxes.
- In case the CDR Insurance is not purchased, The supplier reserves the right to block the full amount of the deductible on the
customer’s credit card.

The following damages are not covered by insurance and the costs of all resulting repairs are therefore the responsibility of the renter:
- Deliberate and/or wilful damages by the renter or damages caused while driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
- Damages due to failing to maintain proper fluid levels (engine & transmission), or proper tire pressure and damages due to
the misuse of the braking system (overheating) and/or the transmission (overdrive)
- Damages due to violation of travel restrictions
- Damages to the interior of the unit (not caused by an accident)
- Damages occurring in an accident the renter has failed to report to the police
- Damage or theft of renter’s personal belongings
- Damages caused by back-up manoeuvres
Travel Restrictions
- Travel into Mexico is prohibited
- Travel in Death Valley, California, is prohibited between June 1 and August 31
- Non-public roads and off-road driving is prohibited at all times
- The supplier does not allow the vehicle to be left unattended by renter in the city of Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa and New York.
Failure to do so will void the insurance coverage and make the renter liable in case of theft and/or damages
In the event of an accident, The supplier will retain the security deposit until the motor vehicle insurance company determines liability for the accident. If the motor vehicle insurance company notifies the supplier that the renter is not at fault, the supplier agrees to reimburse the security deposit immediately after receiving notification from the motor vehicle insurance company.
Suitcase Storage
The supplier offers free storage of luggage at owner’s risk.
Traffic Violations
The renter of the vehicle will be responsible for all fines resulting from traffic violations (including parking tickets) during the time of the rental. As a courtesy, the supplier will ensure that tickets and fines are paid in timely fashion if the renter provides the ticket and payment. Should any tickets or fines go unpaid, the supplier reserves the right to charge a $25.00 administration fee in addition to the amount of the fine. All fees will be charged to the renter’s credit card.
Transfers
The supplier offers free transfers to/from international airports, hotels in the vicinity of the airports, as well as hotels downtown.
NOTE: No transfers provided after 1:00 p.m.

Insurance
The Supplier maintains liability coverage on all its rental vehicles to a maximum of CAD 5,000,000.00 for any bodily injury
and property damage liability claims arising from the operation or use of its rental vehicles, provided all safety instructions as
recommended by The Supplier have been followed. Premiums for this basic public liability coverage are included in all
rental rates, which also include premiums for collision insurance and comprehensive insurance with a deductible of CAD
$7,500.00 per occurrence. All coverage and waivers are subject to the expressed terms of the contract and of the applicable
motor vehicle insurance contract.
CDR – COLLISION DEDUCTIBLE REDUCER
A collision damage reducer is available for CAD $20.00 per day to a maximum of CAD $600.00 per rental and provides the
following benefits:
* CDR coverage reduces the renter’s responsibility for collision damages from CAD $7,500.00 to CAD $500.00 per occurrence.
* CDR coverage reduces the renter’s responsibility for comprehensive damage (e.g. windshield, break-in and theft) from CAD $7,500.00 to CAD $500.00 per occurrence.
